Mexico's most popular cocktail — tequila, fresh grapefruit juice, lime and a salted rim. Bittersweet, refreshing and effortlessly easy to drink.
Chef's Notes
Use fresh grapefruit only. Half-salt the rim — guests can choose which side to drink from. Blanco tequila works best; reposado adds a mellow warmth.
Or reposado for more depth
Freshly squeezed, approx. ½ grapefruit
Adjust to taste
For the rim — half-salt only
Rub a lime wedge around half the rim of a highball glass and dip into flaky sea salt.
💡 Half-salting lets guests choose. Don't use table salt — it tastes sharp.
Fill the glass with ice. Add tequila, fresh grapefruit juice, lime juice and sugar syrup. Stir briefly.
Top with chilled soda water. Stir once gently. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge or half-wheel.
💡 Squeeze a little grapefruit over the top just before serving for extra aroma.
